My latest resin call
« on: May 19, 2009, 11:02:11 AM »
Here is a call I did. It is yellow and red resin.  I got ahead of myself and put it on the lathe backwards so what i wanted to the top of the call to be became the bottom. Oh well, at least the inside of the call is nice and swirled

I think I will do another one with this color combo and make sure I mount it the right way this time   :censored:

Yea, there was a concern expressed by Parker some time back about making turkey calls from Red and Blue. He refused to make one for a client that color. He says it is the same as the colors on a turkey and he sure wouldn't want a customer to be shot by mistake. Just something to think about.

Guess i never really thought about that. I will use this one as a display piece rather than a call for the woods.

Hey Spit, that is a cool way to do this.  Care to share a "how to" or a tutorial on your casting process?  Colored cast resin?  I would love to try this out.

In advance, thanks.

Nice looking call. How does it turn?

it turns great but you cannot take big cuts. You need to take nice shallow cuts or you will get chipping. not any hard to turn than wood, i don't think anyways. plus the finish process is a lot quicker.

Sure I have no problems doing a tutorial. I am out of resin but as soon as I get some more I will take some pics of my process. If i have time I will stop at the store on my way home from work and pick some up.

I'll wait for the tutorial also. I'd like to see if they could be made into dowels. It looks like it would make nice looking predator calls to.

Ok, I started the tutorial thread. no pictures yet but there is a list of materials I use, some links to show what it is so it is easier to find at the store and a link to a coupon to save you a little money on supplies.
Once i do another casting I will take some pictures and post them up here.
