Wood needed....

 I need a piece of wood...Dark purple...and Black.... with some figure for making a deer call to match a gun stock.....
Anyone know of where I can buy some?? I said I would ask around.
Dark purple that I could ebonize would be cool.

Her husband has this call...

Just an idea Al ...Spalted Tamarind dyed purple. It's nice and hard has light areas that would take the dye and the black is already there. I got some in stock of course :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Larry, I have some real nice spalted maple and spalted hickory.....How would I dye it?

Woodcrafters sells wood dyes that I have and they work great I mix them with Acetone put them in a Ball Mason jar and soak the call for a hour or so. Dry it out and do a little light sanding. I just posted some Green Duck calls that were done this way in the Duck & Goose call board. I think they have Purple dye but you would have to check and see.

If they don't have purple, buy some red and blue.  When mixed, they will make purple.  Then, you can get the shade of purple you like.

Test piece of spalted hickory .....alcohol and Rit dye soaked for an hour....to morrow I will cut it 2 ways and see the penetration level of the dye.



If it works I will give it a soak in BLO after pre drilling, rough turning, and dying then I will let dry for a time and finish turning and sanding then I will ebonize it...sanding most of it back off and see what I got......... :eek:

Al the calls I did I rough turned them then soaked them I drilled the 5/8" hole first and it didn't mess anything up for me. Good luck Buddy! :bigup: :bigup:
