A few new ones.
« on: February 26, 2010, 07:43:29 PM »
Took some time from my Zack Taylor Sneakbox boat project to turn a few calls. These are Short reed goose calls from Hedge I cut around the farm. Its very old wood with a good kinda nasty look to it.

Here is the project that is eating most of my time.

greyduck, is there a thread devoted to the building of this boat? There should be if there isn't. I really would like to watch the process and see any more pics of the beginning if you have them. You are very talented

Wow, that boat looks damn fine.

The calls and decoys are grand too.  I don't know how you have the time for all of that work...

I love watching this boat come together.

Question for ya - how hard is it bending those boards into shape?  Are you water soaking them first to help them bend easier?

I see said the blind man. I had to move the screen over to find it. It was driving me nuts so I had to find it. Speaking of that I think I will go find one in my fridge and see how cold  it is.

To good guys -- It started as a bud but now its a Amber bock. After starting this build I pluged in the kegerator and got a keg of Amber Bock.

Big B the wood is not soaked. Its 3/4 inch pine I had to plain down from a 2x. Thats what the forms are for. To get it to bend. I tied a ternicate at the bow and started twisting to get them to come to the nosepiece. I did the nosepiese in 8/4 walnut -- just to have something different.

Greyduck, I appreciate the pics! Please keep them coming to the finish if its not too much to ask. Are you going off of some plans you picked up on the internet or is this of your own design? Also will you be using it to hunt with? Sorry for all the questions, boats really get my blood flowing.

These are plans from the Zack Taylor Successful Waterfowling book. I read the book years ago. Always wanted to build this sneakbox. Here is a link to duckboats.net. They have a copy of the print here. http://duckboats.net.nmsrv.com/specs/images/sneakboxw1.jpg. Yes she will be hunted. We are going to build a few. Of coarse my wife wants one also. The second one will be easier. We will have the forms, templates made and a material list.

My son removing the setup frame.

 From the bow.

 From the stern.

Tomorrow we will get the rib risers cut to size and the deckline cut down. I hope to get the deck beams started.
