Turncrafter Pro VS DIED!!!!!!

Less than  2 month's old my New Turncrafter Pro VS died. Was turning a 1.5 block and the motor just stopped working....( was actually changing tools, talking to my daughter when it happened)
Checked circuit breakers, control reset, changed outlets, no smell from motor.... Just stopped working.
I see Penn state no longer carries the "Turncrafter Pro" (Hummm)  :huh:
Did a little surfing and found some negative feedback for the turncrafter pro vs for the exact same Reason... Just stops running for no apparent reason :eek: :no: :wacko: :huh:

Has ANYONE experienced the same issue? If so what was your fix/ resolution?

Calling Penn State tomorrow morning :taz:

The easiest thing to have go out on a lathe is the power switch.  I was lucky enough this last time to have mine go out in the 'on' position. 

Have you checked the switch to make sure you are still getting current through it?

No matter what type of lathe you have, as much as we turn them on and off, they are going to give.

I SURE hope this is your problem, because it is a cheap fix at your local hardware store.

Interesting.  I was using my Delta just yesterday and it quit as well in th "ON" position.  Have to go out and get a new switch this morning.

Update: Just got off the phone with PSI, they are thinking the same (VS control box fuse and or reostat). fuse no issue quick fix... Reostat would have to send back to PSI to be repaired or replaced.
I will have to remove the VS control box tomorrow to check the fuse. heading ot to work 24 hr shift...
I will update when I find out.

The other thing that goes wrong with those things is the transistor that controls the current of the Motor. I have a few dozen if that is the problem.

Update: Double checked lathe today before checking fuse, plugged in will not turn on, push reset button on VS control. nada no power will not turn on.

turn lathe on side to remove vs control box to check fuse per PSI, fuse intact still good..... set lathe up right to clear cord to get ready to ship out. (Hum let me double check) plugged in cord and turn switch on and WE HAVE POWER!!!

Wait a minute.... I didnt do anything to it.... So I unplugged the cord, turned the lathe back over and started to check connections, all connections tight including the fuse, so I called PSI and advised same and inquired what they would like for me to do...

PSI: run and see if it happens again... it may last for 2 minutes or it may runn for the next 5 years without an issue.

So we are turning wood today!!! at least until it stops!

Sounds to me like you had crud in your on/off switch, and it shook loose.  But I suppose there are a hundred different things it could be.

i had to replace my switch a couple months ago as well.  its not a psi, but as stated it will fail at some point.  easy fix though.  it is a sad day when the lathe bunks!
