EVA Foam Blocks
« on: March 15, 2010, 10:00:52 AM »
Looking for some black EVA foam for lip stops......Mudhole tackle does not have any black blocks without a pre-drilled hole.....I want some without the hole already drilled and need it in black....I'm out!

Could someone point me in the right direction to find some?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Get the pre-drilled. There is plenty of stock out side the pre-drilled hole for lipstops.  Its what I did and it works fine.  Just run it thru the table saw to rip 4 sections.  You get alot of lipstops out of 1 pc.

Rip down cut to around 4" bore your hole.  I start with 1/4" toss on the pen mandrel and I get 4 stops tuned at once.  It fits tight to the mandrel you do not even need to "mount" on the shaft.  Just sharp tools and light touch.

After I have them off I will open them up if needed.

Now if you do smaller then 1/4 you will need to get a smaller rod for your mandrel.

How wide are the quartered sections?

I need to go home and check. Couple hrs I could tell ya. But just take  the overall dimension's  Sketch it out.  Make a bore in the center and there ya have it.  I think its 1" square with just a 1/8" corner notched on the edge which easily is gone rounding the blank.

Thanks for checking! Ihave used EVA before...The drilled blanks looked too small to split in qtrs....If one qtr is a min of 1 inch square then it will work for my lip stop style!

Thanks for the help!

The blocks I have are a full 2" square.  Quartering the blocks leaves 1" depending on the blade used of course.  And a 1/8" notch on 1 corner.  Using a standard blad slightly under 1" square and less of a notch.  Should be plenty big for ya.

Its a synthetic material. That has cushioning, elastic properties.  You find it used on fishing pole handles.  And now lipstops.  Not sure what else its used on.  What else is there in life besides hunting and fishing?

I started this craze when I found out they make pretty good lip stops on trumpets and wing bones.  I included the info about them in my trumpet tutorial.  Beats the smelly rubber lip stops and easier to work than the cork lip stops.

   I have NO idea!

My work, play, hobbies, past times, sports, conversations, tv, internet, movies......they all are based on hunting and fishing........so I just dunno.
