I use a 1/4" collar, and have no issues with that size collar on a 7/32" drill bit.

Takes about 10 minutes to make one, use a piece of dowel and drill dead center, then drill in the side with a #29 drill bit and use a 8-32 tap to thread it.  Then use a 8-32 hex socket screw to hold it in place.  Aluminum or steel would be better, but the wood one will last for a longtime.

I should try that.

You can always buy a 3/16 locking collar and drill it out to 7/32

I forgot to add that if you use wood after drilling and tapping give the holes a shot of CA glue to strengthen the wood a little.
