Nice looking pot for sure. Certainly good for your 2nd pot! If you're getting poly to work on cocobolo you're doing better than most...Shellac first?
As far as shape/sound, give it a try the way you've got it, but I'd think that you might get better sound out of it if the bottom were not quite as thick, resulting in such a short pedestal. I make mine by eye but I'd say my pedestals are a good 5/16" tall more or less. I also try to keep the lip that the playing surface sits on as narrow as reasonably possible...Never more than 1/8". Anything wider and you're just taking away from the vibration in the surface, and a little makes a lot of difference sometimes. Take it all with a grain of salt....Lots of ways to skin this cat, that's for sure.
Just take measurements and detailed notes on each call you make before you close it up. The learning curve will be a lot steeper that way.
