expanding arbor
« on: July 23, 2010, 05:10:15 PM »
I just purchased a set of expanding arbors.  Has anyone ever tried to use these.  They look very similar to the expanding mandrels I have heard some people talk about.  I picked the set up for around $20 with $6 shipping.  The set came with 4 different sizes 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8.  I beleive they are used mainly for metal lathes but I don't see why they would not work.  If anyone has tried some expanding arbors let me know how they work.

There is a screw in the slotted end, to expand turn to the right.  Don't expect to see much movement, these are for metal and they deal in thousandths of an inch.

Do you have a pic of them?

are they like this:

or this:

If they are like the bottom, then that is what I use in my collet chuck.  They work just fine.  I don't have any experience with one like in the top picture.
