Carbide tools
« on: August 08, 2010, 08:38:25 PM »
Guy's I need your help. Earlier this year I bought the round and square carbide pen turning tools from http://www.thingswestern.com/3.html . They are getting rather dull so I am looking to replace the cutters. Would these two that I have linked work or would you be able to point me to some that would?

Your square link is incorrect.  The round link is on there twice.

When mine go dull, I'm just going to order new cutters from Things Western.  As much cutting as I get out of them, I know it will be worth it to replace the cutters with the exact kind made for the tool.

I also believe (though I have never had to test it) that with Things Western being a small company that I had great intial contact with, if something ever went wrong with one of their tools, they would get me taken care of well in response.  If something like that were to ever happen, I would want to be using one of their cutters.

It is best to buy replacements from the dealer, if you do not get the correct size and it doesn't fit exactly the carbide might shatter.  When they shatter hitting a blank at 3000 RPM they are like little bullets.

I think he sells replacements for abot $11.00 and I also think for $4.00 he will sharpen the dull ones. At least I think that's what he quoted me.
