Question on Casting Resin

Does anyone know of a good place to buy Casting Resin and the color dyes? Can you get it at any hardware store like Ace Hardware or Home Depot? I would like to give it a try for casting my own blanks. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I know that Hobby Lobby has clear resin.  The turtle feathers website has inlace, which is a good resin that some folks use for casting.

Do you think if i were to cast some Fiberglass resin, would that work?

Not sure if that will work? I saw some where i think on this site that Spitfire showed how he pours his PR blanks.. I could be wrong so i will digg deeper to find the info..

Check out Alumilite.  It is much more user friendly for call makers than regular PR.  It is more expensive, but it is really nice stuff.

Starting out, if you want to give something a try, I'd look at Hobby Lobby or stores like that.  We've got Michael's around here too.

Alumilite does not smell, but read the instructions just because it does not have the smell does not mean it cannot ruin your health.

Marvin makes an excellent point.  I don't think the majority of these casting resins were meant to be used in situations where they are placed in a persons mouth?  I've dealt with various resins, polymers, and their constituants over the years.  And there are some really toxic elements here.  The respiratory problems alone are not good.  You really have to be careful!

Thanks guys. Im going to see if i can find someone that carrys any of that stuff around my area. I have a Michael's by me but i couldnt find anything on the website, may just have to check the actual store.

I called Alumilite a while back ,inquired about the Alumilite regular, (which is what you should use imo) and was told it was completey non toxic and safe. Dont know about all the rest of what they have though.

I sent Alumilite an email asking about casting toneboards.  They came back loud and clear the final product was not FDA approved.  Then I sent another that it would be for a duck type insert with no mouth contact, I basically received the same reply, that Alumilite was not FDA approved and they would not recommend it's use it for that purpose.  I guess they don't know what is safe and what is not safe.

   Neither is wood such as walnut, or any finish to put on calls besides butcher block oil, right?
